Civil Registration Month observed

THE Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) 7 celebrates its 31st Civil Registration Month (CRM) this February 2021.

Engr. Ariel E. Florendo, PSA 7 director, said the CRM theme this year is: “Strengthening Civil Registration and Vital Statistics’ Digital Information: The Ways to Manage the New Normal.”

“Given the new normal, our efforts in improving our civil registration services are geared towards making our processes more convenient and safer for our clients. We continuously explore new and innovative ways to bring our civil registration services and vital statistics more accessible to the public,” said Undersecretary Dennis S. Mapa, National Statistician and Civil Registrar General.

This year’s 31st CRM (#CivilRegMonth) has various activities to raise awareness and promote the legal, administrative, and statistical values of civil registration, and campaign the importance of adequate funding for the enforcement and administration of civil registry laws.

In addition, Florendo said the usual hanging of CRM streamers, lectures on civil registration, information drive, participation to mobile registration initiated by the Local Civil Registry Offices across Central Visayas, CRM quiz bee, TV and radio interviews through virtual or physical, will still be in place while observing minimum health and safety protocols.

Florendo said CRM is celebrated by virtue of Presidential Proclamation No. 682 signed on January 28, 1991 by the late President Corazon Aquino declaring February of every year as the Civil Registration Month.

He said that this is to remind the Filipino citizens of their duty to register, attend events concerning status of persons and enhance nationwide awareness and appreciation of the legal, administrative and statistical values of civil registry documents. PR/ELIAS P. BAQUERO
