IN Canada, Australia and Indonesia, minors are banned from owning and using cellphones under the justification that anxiety, depression and suicides are mainly triggered by excessive exposure of their young minds to social media.
The ban is successful in those three countries -- which leads well-meaning citizens to suggest that the same prohibition be copied in the Philippines.
True, social media has its advantages as it connects people anywhere, making the globe smaller -- but it also has several disadvantages especially when misused and abused.
Shall our country replicate the Canadian, Australian and Indonesian cellphone ban among minors?
This has to be studied carefully first.
