On September 21, students from some of the country’s top universities are rallying together for a massive protest dubbed “Flood Luneta,” aiming to shine a glaring spotlight on the rampant corruption plaguing the government. Leading the charge are groups like Taumbayan Ayaw sa Magnanakaw at Abusado Network Alliance (TAMA NA), which represents a consortium of student organizations along Taft Avenue, and the Panatang Luntian Coalition, a passionate assembly of young environmentalists and student councils.
University of the Philippines Student Regent Dexter Clemente didn’t mince words at a recent walk-out protest, voicing the collective outrage felt by students. “We are absolutely and unapologetically outraged by the large-scale thievery and shameless nepotism that is happening,” he emphasized, reflecting a sentiment that resonates deeply with the youth. There’s a palpable frustration with the hyper-partisanship of current political factions, all of whom seem to share a corrupt DNA focused on personal gains rather than public good.
