The ongoing investigation into the flood control scandal, led by Sen. Panfilo Lacson and the Senate Blue Ribbon committee, has taken a dramatic turn, exposing a troubling reality: nearly every senator in the 19th Congress has allegedly inserted around P100 billion in questionable projects into the national budget. As the drama unfolds, it raises the question: why are these senators getting tangled up in project implementation in the first place?
Legislating should be their primary job—not micromanaging projects that should be handled by Local Government Units (LGUs). When senators and congressmen try to step into implementation roles, it often sets off a chain reaction of corruption and mismanagement. Like a bad recipe, when you blend politics with project management, you end up with a toxic mix—one that thrives on kickbacks and shady deals.
Instead of being enmeshed in scandals, lawmakers should focus on creating laws that empower LGUs to execute projects efficiently and transparently. It’s time for them to step back and let the local leaders who understand their communities do the job. Let’s hope this investigation sheds light on the need for clearer boundaries and restores public trust in our legislative bodies!
