QUICK ASSISTANCE FOR THE EARTHQUAKE VICTiMS

The CARILLO LAW CENTRUM, JAMS LECHON AND SEAFOOD HAUS, along with my sisters Gina, Myla, Aidee, and Maribel, Couple-Diony and Erlinda De La Fuante and Nenette our friends in Australia, have collectively contributed to aid the victims of the recent earthquake in northern Cebu. We assembled approximately 1,000 one-liter bottled water containers and 500 family packs containing rice and canned goods for the families severely impacted in San Remigio and Medellin.

During our return journey, we encountered an unexpected event. While driving, our Fortuner was bumped by a Toyota pickup truck, reportedly driven by an individual who appeared drowsy from an early morning wake-up. Fortunately, our vehicle sustained only minor damage, which was a stroke of luck.

However, the surprises did not conclude there. After proceeding to the Borbon Municipal Hall to report the incident, we experienced another unforeseen event—a tremor! This led to widespread panic, as individuals scrambled for safety in a chaotic manner reminiscent of a frantic game of tag. The atmosphere was striking, especially considering the recent seismic activity, which included over 2,000 aftershocks, prompting many to live outside their homes and set up tents as if they were on a camping excursion. This scenario felt surreal.

Despite the challenges of the day—both literally and figuratively—it served as a poignant reminder of how swiftly circumstances can shift. Although we encountered minor setbacks, we remained safe and gained a noteworthy story to recount. It is heartening to share our experiences with those who are truly in need.
