OFFICERS and members of the Philippine Chamber of THE Department of Agriculture will channel tariff revenues from livestock, poultry and dairy imports into a P200 billion modernization program. Commerce and Industry says the anti-corruption protests underscored the people's call for stronger accountability and transparency.
This will be implemented under the newly-enacted Animal Industry Development and Competitiveness Act.
Signed by Pres. Ferdinand Marcos Jr. last month, the Act will take effect in mid-October this year.
Agriculture Sec. Francisco Laurel Jr. said the government will allocate P20 billion annually over 10 years from tariff collections to strengthen local animal industries.
