THE NEW SPEAKERSHIP

JUST after a few days when Sen. Chiz Escudero was ousted as the Senate president, the House of Representatives followed suit, to say the least. Former Speaker Martin Romualaldez had to resign from the speakership to give way to a new leader.

New Speaker Bojie Dy took Romualdez's seat with much ease since he was unopposed. It was like he won the speakership smoothly because right after his nomination, no other name was mentioned.

Sadly, Dy was sued a few years back due to alleged plunder. The nation was hoping for a "sinless" Romualdez replacement.

The same dog with a new collar?

But we are willing to give Dy the chance to prove his worth as the new speaker. It is still too early to assess his leadership style and actual performance.

Yes, Dy may be controversial too but again, he should be afforded the opportunity to fulfill his new role. Let's observe him first.
