RETIRED GEOLOGIST WARNS AGAINST FILLING SINKHOLES

RETIRED geologist Liza Manzano has warned local authorities and residents in northern Cebu not to rush the filling of sinkholes, stressing that such actions depend on the cause, size and location of the collapse.

She said areas that are still spalling or subsiding with flowing water at the bottom should be cordoned off and left to settle before any intervention.

Manzano emphasized patience and the need for consultations with trained geologists.
